Private customers, however, receive compensation from their bank for any losses they might incur. According to Ehvervsbladet.dk, the online financial newspaper, the rate of incidents of hacking into business computer networks is increasing. A Danish company lost DKK 1.8 million as a result of computer hacking. The banks will not cover the losses, and issued the following statement via their professional organization, the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet):

“Professionals must be expected to protect their entire business, which also includes protecting their computers. It is not only bank information that is exposed, but also other confidential documents, business secrets, etc,” says Deputy Director Tina Füssel, according to Erhvervbladet.dk.

Scandinavian banks do NOT cover losses if [Danish] company accounts fall victims to fraud and are emptied. The best way to protect yourself is to use a two-factor authentication token, which is not usual in Scandinavia but which makes it impossible to hack into your company’s bank account. Passwords are sent directly to the token, which is used every time you make payments via the internet.
